Leaking ABS Controller Unit !!!!!!!!!! 850 1994

I've been leaking brake fluid and it turns out that it's coming from the case of the ABS Controller Unit itself. I've been told that the unit will need to be replaced at a cost of $Cdn 2200 for the part alone.

Any suggestions that would prevent me from cancelling my next vacation are greatly appreciated....

Sorry, not good news, but you can fix it for much less if you're willing to go with a used part. See this post:

Quick question: Does you car have the TRACS option?

I believe it may be your brake master-cylinder that is leaking. Since the ABS unit in located under the MC, it may leak unto the BLACK ABS/TRACS unit. If your ABS/TRACS light is on, then the unit is malfuncting. The cause 95% of the time is a bad ABS computer, which has to be replaced and codes cleared.
Now, the GOOD NEWS: goto car-part.com and enter your cars' info. and parts needed. I found a used ABS/Tracs module in CT from a 97 GLT w/66K miles on it. I paid $140 total. My dealer is installing for me today($85 + tax) and I will be set. So for about $240, I'll have my ABS back in working order!! Even if it failed in 6 months and I need another one, I will be ahead of dealer prices($500+ labor & taxes). good luck.

        Leaking ABS Controller Unit !!!!!!!!!! 850 1994

        Sorry Billy Dee....wrong information.

The ABS ECU and ABS Modulator Unit (hydraulic pump) on a 1994 Volvo 850 are NOT located beneath the master cylinder. Therefore a leaking master cylinder (never heard of this on an 850) would not drip on them. These ABS units are well to the side of the master cylinder. You are also confusing two different problems. Yours seemed to be a bad ECU unit, but the original poster was describing leaking brake fluid without a malfunctioning electronic problem (yet).

Your suggestion about seeking out a salvaged part is prudent, however, regardless of whether or not it's the ECU or modulator/hydraulic unit.
