Window tinting 850 1993

I am interested in getting my windows tinted and was wondering what I could expect to pay (I am in San Francisco), where I should go to have it done and what I should look out for.

Thank you

I paid about $130 for mine out here in CT. I would highly suggest that you do what is called seemless installation on the rear window. Otherwsie they'll use two to three pieces of the film and you will see seams in the window. It also reduces the risk of damaging the wires. Insist on a shop that's been around for a while and will be around if you ever have trouble with the job. Get the UV protected films that are metallic (not necessarily shiny), they eliminate the possibility of fading and turning purple.

A good busy shop will always have compelted cars sitting on the lot for you to look at and see if the quality is up to snuff.

I suppose $150-200 is a reasonable price, but don't look for bargains. The best tints will be metallic-based (or even ceramic), and ALL good ones should come with a lifetime guaranty. Watch out for the possibility of the installer cutting one of the rear defroster lines (recommend you check them before going, and let the installer know you did that). Also, the rear window may be done in two pieces.

I paid $160 (? can't remember too well) last year in MA for 5 windows for my wagon. I made sure the guy had good reviews. Make sure to get the stuff that won't turn purple in a couple of years. Make sure he cleans the window very, very well. It might make sense to clean it once beforehand additionally. He didn't have a computer-cut tints for 850, so did it by hand. Came out clean. You might be able to use S70 cuts.

There are different types of tints, good, better, best, etc, but sorry forgot them all. I'm sure you'll get more replies.

I had my 850 R tinted last year here in South Florida. It cost $99 plus tax for material with a lifetime guarantee. Again my installer did not have the computer program for the 850 Volvo so he used the S70 program and eveything fitted perfectly. Shop around for someone with the computer cutting facility, it will certainly save on your rear window having the heating wires cut.
