Actron/Sunpro - OBD-II - Code Reader. 850 1997

Hi, are these code readers any good for a 1997 850 GLT. Has anyone had any experience with these units. Thanks for any replies.

Also take a look at the Equus 3100 scanner. You can get one from Jeepers Creepers for $135 and free shipping ( http://www.jeepersandcreepers.com/gear/pages/equus.htm ). The Actron 9135 is the improved version of Actron's shadetree code reader. So don't get the old model 9005.

Jim have you compared the Equus 3100 to the Actron 9135 ? Just wondering your thoughts on which is better.

I have an Actron that I got at AutoZone about 5 months ago for $140 or so on "special". I was weary at first given some of the junk tools that Autozone sells but it has been very useful for me and I am happy with it. It has thrown codes for a bad o2 sensor, bad secondary Air system pump/relay and the PNP switch in my 97 960. All were problems that needed to be fixed.

I have heard on the board that the codes for standard ODB scanners are "generic" relative to the expensive Volvo ODB code scanner but my scanner has more than paid for itself so far. It gets you in the ball park and the bricboard can be used to fill in the gaps as some people can provide more detail if you post a code.

The Actron was one of the less expensive handheld units I found. I was less interested in the PC based readers because I can keep the handheld reader in my car at all times.

Best,

Angus
