    Hi,
I bought a V70Tdi new in 1998. Drove it three years / 125,000 kms no problems.
The engine has two timing belts, one is due every 60,000kms, the other 120,000kms.
Changing the timing belts incl. tensioner, water pump etc is critical.
Engine is very powerful (high low/mid range torque) and pulls strong.
Engine noise is quite audible at idle, but quiet at speed.
Mine was automatic xmission, which worked well with the engine characteristics.
Fuel consumption was about 6.5 to 7.0 litres/per100km (don't know how much that is in mpg) mostly autobahn(highway) use driving 130 kph (80 mph) when traffic permits.
I'd go for it, but in your part of the world (don't know...)
it may be difficult to have the engine serviced.

    Cheers
    Stefan

Being difficult to have the engine serviced in Canada (maybe US) is an understatement, our market doesn't offer the TDI Volvo engine. I guess the techs here would have to stare into that engine bay for a while in the event a TDI Volvo came in for service. When i visited Germany i've even seen bi-fuel S70s, what's that all about?

Those come from the factory with both a gasoline and either Liquid Propane Gas or Compressed Natural Gas tank and system on board.

In Germany it's usually gasoline+CNG and for instance in the UK and Holland it's gasoline+LPG

        Bye, Arno.
