Fuel Filter Replacement on AWD V70-XC70 1998

Just a comment for those with AWD needing to replace your fuel filter. The filter is located under the cargo mat requiring you to remove your cargo doors and the floor side pieces that snap in. You then need to remove the four bolts holding the hinged cover and slide the unit towards you to remove. There will be three cover plates that are on the right side of which only two need to be removed. One with wires coming out and the other had a plastic plate that has a group of wire connectors covering the access plate. Ther are two plastic pins holding the connector plate that can be pried out. Remove the cover and there is the other end of the filter. I did not see any pressure relief valve to release fuel pressure and there really was no pressure anyway. The hose ends slip off easily and you will also need to remove the bolt that holds the strap holding the filter. Slide the filter out of the strap to get it out of the opening. There is also another connector near one filter end that needs to be removed to make room for the filter removal. Slip the new filter on and reverse the process. Fortunately this only has to be done every 100k miles. FYI.

Fuel Filter Replacement on AWD V70-XC70 1998

I didn't remember it being that difficult on my 1998 R, which is AWD. Bad term, cargo doors, try removing the floor cover instead. Yes, the filter does come out of the top rather than fall down to the ground. While in there, I replaced a portion of the HVAC tubing that had split and caused check engine light.

Just caught up with this one. Holy heavens, what a huge buncha removals to perform.

I swear I knelt beside my '99 V70's (FWD) side and R&Red the gas filter by feel!

What are "cargo doors"?
