Odomemeter - Kaput ! Whatzup ? 850

Gotta love these 850's for their constant breakage of strange things!

At 75K the odometer decided to die on my 1995 850 Turbo.

All other instruments work fine- just the trip odometer and odometer.

Anyone have any experience fixing this problem? I understand that everything is electronically driven, even thought the odometer is a mechanical mechanism. Thus no chance for a simple loose cable?

    I had the same problem and just got it fixed a couple of weeks ago.

    Basically the little gear inside the odometer/tripmeter broke one of the teeth. I was told by my local Indy mechanic that the dealer usually replaces the entire unit for mega-bucks so he recommended a local odometer repair shop. It cost me $60 to fix since I removed the instrument cluster and brought it in instead of leaving the car for him to remove the cluster. That would've cost >$100 extra. The odometer shop had to custom make the little gear since there were no replacement part available.

    I'm in Southern California if you need the name of the shop. I'm sure you can find one in your area if you do an internet search.

    By the way you might as well change the lights behind your speedometer cluster if have the unit out. They're relatively inexpensive and since you have the unit out already, you might as well because they WILL burn out.

      I have found a link to a guy that makes the culprit plastic ger and sells for $25.

      Think I'll see if my Indy guy who will be replacing my evaporator can fix it while half the car is torn apart to get to the evaporator.


      Only a Volvo could have a broken freaking odometer(at on 75K miles) !!
