iPD ECU question 850 1995

I'm considering the iPD ECU upgrade for my 1995 850 turbo. I have a friend who is willing to sell me his iPD ECU from his T5R - will it work in my car? Looking at iPD's website, the performance numbers appear the same when both models use their appropriate ECU.

I'm pretty sure that the ECUs are specific to your car, so I dont think your friend's chip would work, even if they were same year/trim i dont think it would work. BTW, why is your friend selling the chip, does he not like it?

iPD ECU question 850 1995

The 850ECUs can be interchanged but in his case it will not work because the models are differnt (T5R vs. T5). If it were from T5 to a T5, it would work.

Only P2 cars have car-specific ECUs.

I don't think the ECU from a REAL T-5R will work in a regular Turbo car. I may be wrong but according to my understanding of IPD website, the ECU # on the '95 T-5R, is the same as the 96-97 "R" cars(which makes sense). The 94-97 regular turbos have the same ECU only different badging(Turbo(94-95), T5(96-97)). Note there was also a Light pressure turbo in 97, called GLT. Depending on where you live, Upsolute.com does flash-programming just like IPD for about half the cost. I'm planning to go check them out next week and see how it works.
