IPD ECU upgrade questions S70 1998

Hi all,

Anyone out there with a pre-1999 S70 that has an IPD ECU upgrade? I received a flyer from IPD and the TME ECU upgrades for all 1994-1998 models is now lower -- $695.

1. I spoke with someone at IPD and my one concern is that the upgrade is non-reversible for pre-1999 cars. I am assuming this would not affect the resale value of the car?

2. Also, has anyone been driving with the upgrade (just ECU minus the exhaust) for over a couple of years now with no problems whatsoever?

Thank you.

    P.S. - ANY PROBLEMS WITH EMMISSION INSPECTIONS? S70 1998

I forgot to ask for those who had the IPD ECU upgrade for a couple of years or so: Any problems with the state emmission inspection (particularly Mass. residents)?

    Thanks!

IPD ECU upgrade questions 850 1995

    2) i had the ecu only for about half a year. 15 sec or more wot is difficult to do on the public roads....that's like going 1/4 mile from a standstill with gas pedal pegged. if u are concerned, there are other exhaust options out there that may be cheaper than ipd (even with the package). i opted to just get the cat back exhaust from ipd anyway. it's been on the car for 4 years now.

    1) i can't speak for s70 models, but on the 850 turbo with motronic 4.3, the dealer can sometimes flash program the ecu by mistake (or trying to clear codes). should this happen, ipd says they will simply "re-flash" to the upgraded specs.

IPD ECU upgrade questions S70 1998

      Hi Steve,

I am aware of the possibility of the dealer performing a download and wiping out the program IPD installed. IPD said that they would re-flash it for free as long as I could prove by first sending them the dealer invoice that stated that an ECU download was performed.

There are two things I am concerned about:

      1. Since the ECU upgrade cannot be reversed I was wondering if it will affect the resale value of the car when I decide to sell the car later on. I am assuming not.

      2. Will the ECU upgrade wipe out any ECU download fixes that was done by the dealer in the past? I am not clear on IPD's response when I spoke to them yesterday.

      Thanks again.

hmm...i don't think it really matters on the resale. if u r worried, take it out and swap in an old factory one ...u can still make money off the flashed ecu. i'm a little about the non reversible part...if ecu can be reflashed back to factory setting...then isn't that "reversible"? just wondering.

if ipd is a little unclear, give scott hart a call or email or website email, he's pretty helpful and usually responds fairly quickly.

Sorry I wasn't clear on this. What I meant by reversible was that IPD cannot reverse it. They said a Volvo dealer can perform a download and restore the ECU back to 'normal'. I am assuming the dealer would be hesitant to perform such a download if the car IS NOT experiencing any engine (or related) problem. If the dealer does agree to do it, I wonder how much would it cost? Anyway, if the ECU upgrade will not affect the resale value of the car then I probably need not worry about it.

          Thanks again.

          -Brian
