Torque Steer Question? 850

I own a 1996 850R that has a surprising amount of torque steer. Is this normal? The alignment was just done and the car has new shocks F/R (Bilstein TC's) along with new spring seats/bushings. The car seems very touchy on "crowned" roads/uneven pavement. When I really get on it (passing on the highway), it can be a real handfull if the road is not perfectly smooth.

The car has 75K with factory 16inch wheels and Dunlop Sport W10's (about half worn) Any ideas?

Thanks,

-Brad.

Torque Steer Question? 850

Yeah, and if I nail it under just the wrong sets of conditions, the car can be a real handful!

After two Saabs, however, I'm pretty much used to it.

I also think that Honda-Acura has gotten it down to the point were it's barely noticable.

Torque Steer Question? 850

Brad,
Torque steer is the price you pay for high perfomance FWDs in any make/model. Some manufacturers have done a better job then others in controlling the "problem", Volvo's are OK, but Torque steer becomes a real problem with more powerfull cars. Saab for example was known for having some of the worst Torque Steer in the business on their fastest Turbo model. There really isn't much you can do about it, except Hang On!!

Tony,

Yeah, I have heard that the Saab 9-3 Viggen is a real handful. This feels like the same sort of problem where the front suspension geometry changes under hard acceleration and things get squirmy! Figured it was normal, but just checking!

-Brad.
