To Flush or Not to Flush 850

I was at a local Jiffy Lube the other day and they were pushing engine flushes. Now I have a '95 850 T-5 with 180,000 miles. I've always ran Full Synthetic Mobile1. Would it be smart to do an engine flush? WIll it increase HP/Torque/performance. Will this ruin my seals?

FYI. The rear main seal is about 7 months old

Thank You
Sandro Seminara

Don't Go Near a Jiffy Lube/Speedee!!! 850

I can add to the stories of others here. First, if you change oil regularly, espically when you run synthetic, you probably don't need to flush the engine. First time I took it to Speedee I was gonna pay $35 ($10 skid plate removal) to change the oil & filter with dino oil. They used vice grips on my drain plug and stripped it, and told me it was like that when I drove it in, and said it would be another $35 to get it out with a hammer and chisel. I walked away, paid $10 to get it chiseled out at my usual mechanic, and $25 to change the oil.

Motto: Change it yourself with Mobil 1 Synthetic and a good filter for the same $35!

To flush engine? NO! 850

The ONLY time when I'll flush an engine is when the owner has failed to do enough oil changes and I know that there's sludge and debris in there. I have a car in the shop now where the owner hasn't changed oil in 20K miles and things don't look good inside (under oil fill cap and dipstick).....serious TAR!.
I've even seen neglected engines where it's so sludged up that when the drain plug is removed, the think, heavy, grease like sludge barely comes out at all. In cases like that, then I'd try flushing in the last ditch attempt to hopefully save an engine from an almost certain premature death.

Cars like yours where you change your oil more often and use synthetic oil? Nope, you don't need that so don't be scammed by those guys. No extra additives either btw.

Do you provide the oil that they put in your car? The filter? I have read that the most common error that quick oil change places make is using the wrong oil.

These places are better than nothing, but IMHO not much.

The only time that my daughter used Jiffy Lube, they bent the lock on our transmission dip stick to make it easier to remove - and possibly blow out on the road. When I called to complain, they apologized, but never denied that the deed was done there! They did not offer to repair it, and it cost $60 at a dealer for a new tube.

Many shops pay the bills by doing routine maintenance, cultivating a relationship with a good dealer or indie is worth the small extra expense.

My dealer has wait-for oil change appointments.

If you want to generate some replies, ask what other brick owners think of quick oil change places. I think that there was a survey on this topic.

Whatever you do, don't trust Jiffy lube. Take it to a real garage or dealer and ask them. They are in it to make a buck at your expense. In other words, they will tell you what you want to hear to get the sale.

If the car runs fine and is well maintained, why do it? It is wasted money, but the choice is yours. If it would give you peace of mind, then do it.

To Flush or Not to Flush 850 1995

I had my tranny flushed at Jiffy Lube. The guy suggested I get the differential fluid changed at the same time. I paid up, went home, and read the Haynes guide. THERE'S NO DIFFERENTIAL ON MY 850! I went back there the next day and got my money back. Either its a franchise-wide rip off, or they're just extremely ignorant. Couldn't change my fuel filter either.
