Looking to buy V70-XC70 1998

I am about to buy a 1998 XC wagon with 62,000k. The seller is asking $14,500. Are there any major issues that I should consider before my purchuse?
Thanks

I'd sell you ours if I could get my wifes fingers off the volvo badge.
She drives and keeps it cause I keep fixing it! Of cource Id rather have her drive it than take my kids to soccer in a honda. But most all cars are even just as SAfe today. see,
I Paid too much for ours. Got it with 35K had nothing but problems. Even got it "certified -which doesn't mean or do much- of course, unless your engine block cracks or the tranny falls!out befor 75K.
I stay on this site to keep it running at least,. and stay away from our dealer which is 80 miles away and charges ~$90/hr
(Ya I got an $180 oil change once as they made my wife say yes once at one of those visits for warranty, free, ya right)
    have a nice weekend

Would pick up (you don't have to buy, just look at) the April "Annual Auto" issue of Consumer Reports and look at the "Used Cars to Avoid" list. On your newsstand now, or at least I still saw a huge stack at Border's yesterday. Or try a "Brickboard" search (pull-down menu above), search term "bevel gear".

Hi there, I recently bought a 98 as well with 115k. My research (which you should do extensively) showed a lot of electrical problems- bulbs, passenger door lock, car shutting down while driving, possible visious coupling problem when driven with uneven tread on all 4 tires, bevel gear problem, door panels bubbling, timing belt every 70k (replace no matter what) My car is in mint condition except for the bubbled panels and its an amazing car. Fast and holds the family too. Plan to do your own oil changes and plugs etc. to save for those jobs you need to go to the dealer for. Make sure it was cared for and check it over really good (looking for leaking fluids and torn boots). This car should run quiet, so if you find the road noise is high it might have visious coupler problems or worn wheal bearings. Do your own brakes if your handy, you will save bigtime!

With the reasonably low miles the powertrain should be good. You will love the car if it all checks out. Have fun! ~Gerald 1998 v70xc 115k
