'97 850 Brake Light Switch

My wife's brake lights stopped working. I checked out the switch, and it seems to work most of the time when I operate it with my finger but not too often with the pedal. Is this common? Any body have the part number? Seems easy enough to replace.
Thanks,
Mike

It is a common failure. It is easy to replaced. I first tried to cleaned it. It did only work temporary. Because it is an important safety related part, you should replaced it. My $$dealer list price is $42. The part number is 9128577. You can try to get it from other source (will be cheaper).

Before buying a new switch, one thing you may want to try is to vigorously push the actuator all the way into the switch with your finger (and release) about 20 times. Sometimes, this is enough to clean off the internal contacts.
