Wiring for side marker lights. 850 1995

Hello All,

I need some advice concerning the installation of Volvo side marker lights for my daughter's 1995 Volvo Turbo Wagon(just purchased). I want these lights to blink with the turn signals, and need to know the best way to remove the turn signals in order to wire up the side lights. I also would like to know the proper wires to splice into in order to achieve this blinking. ANY help would be appreciated. TIA. Rick

My 95 855 wasn't wired. I ran the wire myself. There are 3 wires going into the turn signal light. One of them is ground, the other two are : constant 12V and blinking 12V. You tap into the ground wire and blinking 12V. I used a voltmeter to determine which is the blinking wire. I came across a 850 last week who tapped into the constant 12V line that the side marker light was ON all the times.

Tip for removing Volvo emblem prior to install. Take a pc. of fishing line and slowly draw it back and forth behind the emblem. It will cut the adhesive and you do not run the risk of damaging the paint with a putty knife or screwdriver. Clean of remaining adhesive with silicon, or orther suitable solvent like bug and tar remover.

I have wired two of them as mine were not pre-wired. Check out Volvospeed.com as there is information as how to hook them up as blinkers and to also be on when the lights are one.

      Tony,

Thank you! That is exactly what I'm looking for. I tried to find the information at Volvospeed before but could not locate it. Rick

Have you confirmed that your 850 didn't come prewired? (It's easy to peek inside the fender from the opening in the door hinge area.)

If not, which is possible, you can buy a wiring kit from IPD, I believe. The two wires feeding your new side marker light will connect to the two wires on the corner turn lamp. This lamp is easily removed by opening the hood and looking for a small spring clipped around a plastic piece. The lamp assembly is held in place by this spring under tension. Just pull the loop at the end of the spring away from its clipped location and the lamp will completely loosen. Note where the spring was clipped because you will reinstall it the same way. Very easy to do!

      Hello Gerald,

Thanks.....and I did take a peek inside of the fender areas Saturday and could not see any wiring for the side lights. Where would the wires be if they are there(it would save me some worry). I did just receive the light/wiring set today(Thur) for the car but my daughter will be home again for Easter break, and I was planning on doing the installation then. Rick
