Hi all,

When out and about in my 850 T5(standard) i see alot of those subaru impreza sti's. I know that the T5's can be tuned upto 304bhp with an ecu upgrade and exhaust. As im aware the sti's are 265bhp(approx)

Im just wondering how the T5 would compare with straight speed eg along a motorway/freeway?

if anyone has had any experiences with cars of this type then post away????

would be especially interested with anyone with a tuned 850R eg Ecu upgrade,brakes, sound etc... as i will hopefully be driving one when i graduate.

    U.S spec WRX never had 265 HP, more like 227 I believe. The '04 STI, do have way more HP, but that why we have the new S60R to chase it down. The sube is a "light" car, so it will get up and out fast, but a well tuned 850 T5 or R should be able to "run" with these cars without problems(especially if it's a manual. I would be my money on a tuned 854 T5-R.

      Hate to turn a forum into a sparring match, but....the new '04 STi is a monster killer. With a 0-60 time of 4.59, the R better be WELL tuned and a S60R will be doing exactly what you say, trying to chase it down. I am a fan of both Volvo and Subie and am very please and proud to currently own both (not a WRX by the way) so I am not biased, but I can tell you that based on the current info there will not be much in the line of stock vehicles and even a few exotics that will be able to topple this hornet through the double digits on the speedo. Look at the link I have given which shows specs for the '04 WRX STi and a 1995 Volvo 850 T5-R. The 850 is a full second and a half slower through the 1/4, that is pretty substantial. You can also use the "Compare With" dialog box at the top for other vehicles.

    I believe you are referring to the WRX version. The STi's are new for '04 and to my knowledge have not hit the street yet. They will however be bumped up to 300hp/300torque from the 265 of the WRX. Very light car with great power/weight ratio topped off w/ all-wheel drive and 6-speed manual for insane launches, so I imagine it will difficult for most cars to beat
