Best Place to buy OEM oil filters & wiper blades? 850

Hello Volvo owners,

I have two identical '96 850 GLT wagons with 5spds. I only use Volvo OEM oil filters. Even by shopping around, buying 10 or 12 filters at a clip, plus purchasing from out of state Volvo dealers, I still wind up paying around $4.50 a filter. Any suggestions I where I could do better, but still buy OEM filters?

Also, does anybody have a suggestion where is the best place to buy OEM wiper blades for an 850? Also, does Volvo sell just rubber inserts only for the wiper blades, so you can avoid buying a whole new blade?

Thanks, Hugh

Have you tried ebay for Mann oil filters? Mann is OEM for Volvo filters. I have got them in a 10 or 12 pack for $3.XX each.

I agree with djm850 to get cheap oil filters in fcp groton. Re wiper blades, you can get this from volkswagen dealer oem part for golf 99 to 00 wiper blade for the driver side (get 2 pieces of these for your passenger side also because they got the same measurement)which has a 21" measurement and they are made from the Bosch (original manufacturer) for only $5 to $6. My brother has a volkswagen golf 99 and used to buy that 2 wiper blades driver side.

FCP Groton. Good parts company w/ excellant service. This is about the cheapest source for volvo parts I have found. If you don't see a listing on the site, give them a call and inquire. Let me know if anyone out there has found a supplier that is on average cheaper/reliable.

Try volvoworld.com or Alloemvolvoparts.com for wipers. Personally I would always buy blade assemblies over the inserts. Inserts are usually made by aftermarket manufacturers that generalize designs to fit a range of makes. I have only bought inserts for one of my vehicles and it was a B!*ch getting them on and I wasn't impressed. However, the blade assemblies are usually made by the car manufacturer or a contrated source and are the exact replacements or sometimes improved. I have replaced blade assemblies on about 3 different car makes, acquired usually from a Dealer, and they are always easy to install and are exact. Hope this helps

I agree, FCP Groton can't be beat. I bought an oil filter for less than $4 from them and it was a mann duplicate of the oem Volvo sells.

There is a distinction between the terms "genuine" and "OEM". Volvo parts are genuine. OEM parts are like Bosch, etc.

For the wiper blades, most people have replaced them with *OEM* Bosch blades, 21", which are indeed refillable. As I recall, the Volvo genuine blades are sold as just that, no refills available.

Regarding the oil filter, try many of the online Volvo parts folks mentioned on the forum (do a search). After paying $1000+ for brake repairs, etc., my expectations for maintenance costs on the 850 were reset. An oil filter for $4.50 every 3-5k just seems trivial in perspective!

I found www.bimmerparts.com to have some of the best prices around. Don't let the name fool you, they also sell Volvo parts.
