Audio system S80 1999

I'm looking to upgrade my audio system in my '99 S80. I'm keeping the factory headunit installed, but I would like to install some better speakers and maybe a sub w/ and amp to round out the bass. I don't want to "pimp out" my car, just make it sound better. I heard there was a factory sub that Volvo sells, but I haven't found it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Seems like the last time I looked at the optional equipment book there was not a factory sub for the S80. And from what I have seen and heard it is not easy (if indeed possible at all) to add an amp and sub, at least using any sort of pre-amp signal. I think about the best you can do is to use a speaker-level input from the rear deck speakers to your amp. The other problem is in getting a turn-on signal to the amp. And finally, the VADIS OBD system is pretty picky about ANY sort of electronic device added anywhere to the car!

Actually last time I looked (over a year ago) there was indeed a set of upgrade options for the S80 base stereo and it did include the amp that is installed under the front passenger seat.

If you opt for this solution then VADIS will have no problem (although you'll have to pay for a software download). There's a gent (Philipe?) at vvspy.com who is an audio expert on the Volvo systems and has supplied instructions in the past on modifying the system.

Good luck.
