Auto Trans Filter 93 850 850

Greetings all,
I can't seem to find an automatic transmission filter kit for my 93 850. I ordered some BMW parts the other day from BMA and he didn't show one. Partsbin.com doesn't list one either. Does this car not have one? I hope it at least has a fine mesh strainer like the wife's V6 Camry..
Thanks,
JR in NE GA

So what you guys are saying is: to "service the transmission" one drains the ATF then refills with x-amount of fresh ATF? Sounds worse than "BMW's no need for an auto transmission dipstick" theory...
Thanks
JR

I know. The 91 525 w/GM tranny had a dipstick. My 92 doesn't. Brilliant engineering...

Auto Trans Filter 93 850..... aint one 850

No filter. Thats why you need to change the fluid out every 25000 miles. I guess you could install a remote filter via the cooling lines if you want to. Mike

Volvo makes an unserviceable trans. Most dealers wont even flush the trans. since its not a servieable item from Volvo perspective.

Thanks

I had the same question few years ago. 'asked dealer mechanics and looked into Alldata.com service manual, it does not have one.

I heartily recommend installing a transmission filter in the cooling line. IPD sells one which works fine. Make sure you get the larger fitting size specified for the power steering, which fits the rubber hose better. The smaller is for the older volvos with steel lines. That filter has a magnet in it which is a great idea too. I have done this on 3 Volvos and the only challenge is finding a good place to install it without kinking the rubber hose. I recently experimented with buying a replacement upper cooling hose on an S80 and that made the installation kink free, by using the full lengh of both old and new hoses to reposition the filter to the side a bit. Mind the direction of flow arrow on the filter. BTW, I also flushed my fluid just before doing this install. But that's another story. Larry
