Further cruise control troubleshooting 850 1995

I took a look at the cruise control on my '95 850 and found the vacuum line was connected to the black tap on the control module, which I understand is the correct one.

However, when I pulled the line off, I found I have no vacuum present there. I followed the vacuum line back past where the air box should be, but couldn't see where it went from there under the ABS control unit.

I followed the vacuum line from the intake manifold back and saw it ran behind the transmission somewhere. Where, that's what I'm wondering.

Any more help is appreciated.

Thanks again,

Nate

The "control module" under the battery tray is in fact a vacuum pump. The hose from the black nipple terminates under the dash at the actuator attached to the gas pedal, and is tee'd in to a valve at the brake pedal. There is no vacuum at either the hose or the black nipple unless the vacuum pump is running. In other words, no conection to engine vacuum. When you activate the cruise, the electronic control unit activates the vacuum pump, which creates vacuum and pulls the actuator at the gas pedal. The most common failure is a broken/corroded hose between the pump and actuator. You will probably have to remove the battery and tray to access the hose. The break is usually where the hose runs along the fender under the battery tray. Simply cut out the damaged hose and splice with some rubber vacuum hose

Ahh, so the line is potentially chafed or broken under the battery tray. I'll have to take that out again and look at it.

Now, if the line is okay there, what should my next course of action be? What part generally fails, and how can I ascertain what the failure is?

Is there an easy way to test to see if the vacuum pump is working?
