pros and cons of adding a cabin air filter 850 1995

Recently discovered that my 95 854 GLT Auto (128K) doesn't have a cabin air filter. Have seen a few things on the web about an adapter kit. I'm wondering if the upgrade is worthwhile, an if it's difficult. Swedish Engineering quoted me 13.95 for an adapter (plus the price of a new filter, of course). Is that all I need to make the install? Do I need to move any sensors? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I installed it myself 2 years ago. It has been glad to filter out all the dirt and leaves. The only complain that I have with this filter (in 1995 model) is that after the installation of filter housing and filter, the filter housing touch the bottom of the black plastic cover of which you peel up to install the filter (you know what I mean). In rainny day, water drips along the bottom of the black plastic cover and follows the filter housing to the filter paper. Water gets into the blower motor housing via the pollen filter. Filter element got wet and I could hear the "water sound" when I turn on the blower fan @ 1 or 2.

I never had water inside the blower motor housing before the pollen filter installation. Other than this pain, I like the filter. I also use Volvo's charcoal filter element instead of the white paper filter element.

I put filters in two of our 8s, the dealer did the other when the AC was repaired.

Pollen and dirt??? How about leaves and maple seeds. Where my daughter keeps her car, I pulled everything but a small pig out of the filter and the nearby area.

My dealer has sample dirty and clean filters on display - mine looked a lot worse!

I plan on installing a new filter just after pollen season to get the best flow for AC use.

Just do it!! It takes 15 minutes to install and will keep pollen/dirt from entering the cabin/ AC system. Pretty nice when driving through dusty areas.....

IMHO, this is a very worthwhile thing to have. Not only does the filter capture an amazing amount of *junk* that would otherwise be in your cabin, but it also has been linked to prolonging the life of the A/C evaporator coil. In fact the filter is included in the repair kit for the evaporator. The only con is having to replace the filter annually at a little cost. The newest filter design has embedded charcoal and costs more, so shop around for replacements. When you install the housing, you may have to remove a few parts to get good access, but thereafter, filter changes only require removing a couple of screws.

You won't need any sensors. I have added it to botht 97 GLT's. It is supposed to help keep the AC thing from going south on you. I think it's the part that gets cold in the cabin. I change them every year. Easy to do, and easy to install.

Hi guys,

I had the original pollen filter drop in and had to buy the newer style container as the old filters were no longer made. When you do drop one in you will notice that you only have to have the fan on 1 to get the same breeze that you had without.

I don't bother now i have started using cooking hob extractor filter, cutting it up to size and it last ages instead of the dealer price for one unit. You could also try the newer drop in which you can get from bosch that as a charcoal element.

do you have Bosch part no.?

I know the Volvo part no. for the adapter and the part # for the std filter., and have 3rd party info. on the other Volvo-branded filter, but would love to source the Bosch filter from 3rd party if it fits and specs. are same or better

thanks
