850 trouble areas 850

Hi Volvo friends. I've owned several 740's and am looking to buy a 1996 T-5 high-pressure turbo sedan in the Platinum Edition. What are some things to check for that might commonly go wrong with this car. I have heard that 850's have had air conditioning evaporator problems and expensive to fix. Car has 175,000 km on it and seems to be in good shape. Any suggestions on a fair price range for this car(in the Toronto, Canada area)
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks... Eddie

In addition to the A/C evaporator problem, these items tend to break:

-- Driver heated seat wires
-- ABS controller module
-- Power antenna mast
-- Fuel door lock
-- Ventilation recirc door linkage
-- Horn contact switches
-- Strut spring seats
-- Upper engine mount grommet
-- Cruise control (vacuum hose)
-- Heated side mirrors
-- Radiator cap (if old style)
-- Loose headliner; moonroof liner fabric
-- Engine rear main seal
-- Tranny problems at higher mileage (150k...) when not flushed/maintained
-- Tranny gear position switch (PNP switch)
-- Shiftlock micro switch
-- Windshield/headlamp washer check valves
-- Driver side wiper arm loosens and/or fatigues
-- Roof rails, black coating disentegrates

Less common problems, but can happen:

-- ABS hydraulic modulator unit
-- water pump
-- fuel pump & relay
-- washer pump
-- ventilation blower/relay

Thanks Gerald! This makes me want to keep my 740. I have had good luck with them. Eddie

Keep your 740 and if you want something even better get a 240. I know I know the 240 is more of and old persons car.
