V40 Manual Trans???? S40-V40

Okay,

This may seem like a stupid question, but knowing that Volvo has done some pretty stupid things with transmission choices over the years, somehow I feel valid by asking this question.

Is it possible somewhere in the world to get a manual shift V40? I am sure that Volvo makes it somewhere, just not for Canada, which to me makes no sense whatsoever. I would put the sales job on the wife and get her to consider a V40 instead of an Impreza (imprezive car for the money). We don't need something as big as a V70 which is available in a stick shift. I am sure the Subie wold do well over the years, but I can't deny that I would rather have a Volvo again for the next 2 decades. Plus insurance companies charge an arm and a leg for Impreza's now that there are kids out crashing their WRX and STi moddels pretending to be Colin McRae or something.

Any input on how I might come across such a beast would be appreicated.

    V40 Manual Trans???? S40-V40

I don't know about the V40, but my brother-in-law just bought a 2003 S40 with manual transmission in the Columbia, South Carolina area. He got a great (incredible!) deal on it since the dealer said nobody wants a manual transmission. If I can find one, I might trade my 2000 S40 for it!

No new Volvo would last you even 1 decade (w/o spending ALOT of $$$), especially a V40 so you'ld be better off with a Subbie IMHO. I'd take any Subbie over a V40 anyday. There will not be a MT V40 in the US ever unless you can get one overseas and have it shipped here, probably not an easy or in-expensive idea.

Rest Of World gets 'em, also a HP T4 version. Probably US EPA regs prevented their import. They are now selling SV40s at extremely deep discounts in the US. Since the design is now obsolete I don't think they're likely to import a manual now. The remaining stock seems to be going out the door at VERY good prices, almost unbelievable prices!

There is a 210hp Forester XT (2.5 turbo) version to be introduced in the summer. It will be available with a 5-speed. The English magazine "Car" just tested their 2.0 turbo version, and rated it tops in a comparison test of 4 small wagons. Seems the H4 allows a relatively high vehicle without raising the center of gravity too much.
