Anyone know about the AC Low pressure Switch intermittent? 850 1995

The previous owner had the Ac looked at, and the mechanic said the problem was the Low Pressure Switch Intermittent, and its about an $85 part. Anyone know if this is hard to install, or what labor would be like to get it installed??

I'd opt for another opinion, more likely that the AC system is low on freon. The best way to check that is to have the freon recovered with an AC machine which then weighs the amount removed. If it's less than 1.65lbs (it's normal charge) then that's your problem, not a bad low pressure switch.

Well when the service was done, they recharged the freon. I havent really used the Ac, as I live in the NE and have only had the car since October, and ive had no need to use AC. I will try and see what happens tommorow...

Is the compressor cycling on and off more than usual or is it a code that has been read off the diagnostic port? Hook up a A/C pressure gauge to the lowside service port and see what the pressure is actually doing, maybe the pressure switch is acting correctly. Anyway the low pressure switch is easy to change, just unscrew the old one and screw on the new one. Only a very small amount of R134 freon will escape while you unscrew the old one, there's a schrader valve in there to seal the line when the low pressure switch is removed. Its the pressure switch that you see in the low pressure line just in front of the firewall on the passenger side under the hood. It should only run you about $25 at a local autoparts store that handles stuff like that, probably a local NAPA store. The quicker you can unscrew the pressure switch the less freon you lose. Good luck ...... Mike
