I have a "97 850 Glt and the shifter won't come out of park unless I push the shift lock botton on the console. It just started doing this...am I overlooking some little thing...only had the car 3 months.

    My 95 did the same thing. The switch was $22 i think at Volvo, instructions from bay 13 are very good. Took about an hour to replace. I couldn't get the pin out of the connector and would up soldering both wires. Works great, but will be tougher to replace again 5 years from now.

      its called a shift lock microswitch and it is common to go out on the 850. Some of the 850's were open for a recall just for this problem. Its called recall 76 and would be covered under warranty if your car is open for it.
