oil changes on the border S60 2002

Any thoughts of an s60 that is driven on the Tex-Mex border? Temps are already in 80s some days, and will be 100+ degrees from May to Sept. Regular dino oil OK w/ 3000 mile interval, ar should I go to synthetic at a 5000 mile interval? Or should I just stick w/ the damn manual?

at those temps, i would definitely consider using a synthetic blend or if you can afford it, go with a straight synthetic.these two motor oils shine at extreme temps...very low and/or very high temps.

If you have a N/A then dino oil with changes @ 3K would be fine but if you have a turbo then I would definitely go with synthetic. I live in FL with temps similar to yours and have always used Mobil 1 (10W-30) synthetic in all my turbos. I change oil @ 5K but have gone to 7K if on the highway most of the time. No problems for the last 10 years. Some people on the board recommend having the oil tested at your regular oil change interval to see if the oil is still "protecting". Volvo recommends oil changes at 7500 miles and they built the car!!
Just my opinion,
Eddie

Although dino oil will work, synthetic would be a better bet since it has better breakdown resistance than dino. I would recommend sticking with the owners manuel. The manufacturer knows their car better than we do.
