Well, my 1/4 inch crack that was in my front windshield for about 6 months has grown to about a 14 inch crack. I suppose the freeze thaw cycle has a little something to do with it and I guess it's time to have the thing replaced. Anybody want to share any experiences / words of advice over the types of repair shops, etc. The Volvo dealer said they do not do windshield replacement.
My glass is factory and has the VIN number etching. Anybody know what the cost of this factory glass vs. "replacement" glass is? Thanks to everybody.

Call a few glass shops and ask what they use. Depeneding on what state you live in, glass may or may not be covered on your auto insurance for free with no deductible or a small one. Many shops will come to you and do it in your driveway or at work.

I just had the same thing happen to my 850's windshield. An earlier post on this message board stated that you should ONLY install another OE Volvo windshield.
I just called a local dealer the other day and they told me that they can order the Volvo windshield and have a source they use come in to the dealer and install it. I too was told to check my "Comprehensive" insurance and I found out that I have a $100 deductible. The Volvo dealer told me the total cost for the windshield and labor is $560. I am going to drop the $100 to keep an OE windshield in my baby.

I replaced the windshield in our 96 850. Searched the internet and found $260 for the glass plus installation. Called the local shops and finally found one that did it for $275 total and that incluced the $20 trim at the top. Felt that was a pretty good deal. Haven't had any problems to date and it was aftermarket.

In MA if you have comprehensive insurance glass is covered 100%. 3 windshields in two years all of which were after market.
