I have had my 01 S40 in 3 times for this. When it's cold I hit the starter and it fires then dies, the next time I have to it for a long time while depresseing the gas it will start and stay running, again it's a problem only 1st time ing when cold. Volvo dealer has 1.) replaced fuel regulator 2.) cleaned the injectors 3.) cleaned throttle plate ( this worked for about 3 days now it's doing it again) it gets down to about 30 -35 degrees F here.

I just talked to my service manager they did do this repair according to this bulliten, and it is still not starting they have no other idea what it could be. They are going to take it in again, I suggested changing the spark plugs.

I had the same problem. There is a tech bulletin out. Need to install a shield on a ?shaft position sensor to cut magnetic interference. Never again had problem since shield installed.
