850 T-5 wagon or v70 T5??? 850

Hello to all the Volvo faithful. I have been shopping for either an 850 turbo wagon or a v70 turbo wagon and I stumbled on this site. Can anyone give me the pros and or cons of each to see if it is worth the extra money for the v70. I have it narrowed down to two cars unfortunately there are not too many in my area (phoenix) and both of these cars are out of town and I have only seen pictures. The first is a 95 maroon 850 turbo with gray interior and 65k miles for $9,600 and the second is a black 98 v70 T5 with tan interior for $11,500. I had the 98 checked at the out of town dealer and they said it was a good car and just needed the 90,000 mile tune up plus fuel filter and trans flush for a total of $950. The salesman of the 95 says everything is perfect? Any advise from people with Volvo experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Gee, ask opinions and see what happens. I own a 95 na wagon. If you are mechanicly inclined, and since you know about the website, I'd lean towards the 850. The 95 850 has OBDII and most importantly you can read the fault codes on the on-board test plug gizmo thingy (technical enough for you?). If you are going to take the car to a dealer, or a good indipendant garage, I'd go with the V70. I've spent alot of time in the garage with my 850, but it runs great, I know the work was done right, and I saved alot of money. Speaking of money, I'd call your county tax office and see how much taxes for the two would be, then call the insurance company and see if there would be a difference. Good Luck! Chuck

Well, aside from the obvious, which is you're looking at a car with three years difference, and since you are spending close to $10G, I would say based on that, the 98 V70 wins out. Technically, I think the V70T5 will perform a tad better than the 850 just because of 3 years of newer technology, the engines are rated just about the same in terms of hp. Bad side is that 98 was a new year for the restyling.

Apart from that, the interior of the V70 is much more up to date (IMHO) from things like speedometer to window to cupholders. I think the V70 looks a bit better, a bit more sleeker than the box.
