Strange engine problem; Please help! S70 1998

I have a 1998 S70 T5 and as of several days ago, the engine has started having this strange problem. The engine refuses to go higher than 4000 rpm. If I force it past 4000 rpm, the engine sounds kind of like its weezing and produces almost no power. It seems almost as though there were a rev limiter at 4000 rpm. I can't figure out at all what this is.

Strange engine problem; Please help! S70 1999

Does it run as tho it has an NA engine? Reason I ask - I had a '96 Saab 9000 turbo that exibited the same kind of symptom. No power, no "kick", no RPMs - just like an average "run of the mill" car. Turned out that the waste gate valve (pressure relief valve on the turbo chamber that prevents over-pressure and to maintain a controlled pressure boost amount within the design spec) on the turbo was stuck wide open so no turbo pressure could build. I was suddenly driving a very well appointed $35k rocket reduced to running like a well tuned Yugo! OK - I admit the handling, seat comfort and stereo were better - but SHEESH! LOL! Was fixed by dealer under warantee (thankfully).

Not saying this is your problem - but saw your post and thought I'd bring it up. Hope this helps - or at least gives you an idea to investigate.
