My '95 850's driver side wiper actually comes off of the windshield about 1/2 of the way through the stroke, leaving a large "unwiped" portion directly in my line of sight. I have replace the blade with Bosch, but the problem persists. Any ideas?

adjust your wiper arm.

Don't bend. Use the Bay13 fix. I did and never had a problem again. Makesure you use a dremel grinder or other motorized grinder to remove the extra metal, if you use a file...it will take forever to do the Bay13 repair.

Turn wipers on. Turn ign off when wipers are at 12:00. Bend arm below pivot towards glass.....fixed!
This ailment is caused by the wipers being stuck on ice or by using them to push snow. Don't use them to push heavy snow and if frozen, lift each blade free first when you get to the car before trying the wipers.
I see this every winter on many FWD Volvos, no need to replace parts, etc.

Bending will work a few times.

Eventually I had to spend $26 for a new arm and the problem was solved.

BTW- use a little locktite on the nut that holds the wiper arm down. This'll prevent the wiper from coming loose in a rainstorm ( happened to me).

Go to www.volvospeed.com/bay13 there are instructions for remedying this problem. Happens to most 850 owners.

I have had the same problem a couple of winters back. I ended up bending the aluminum arm attached to the wiper spindle. The spring hinge at the end of this arm has a mechanical stop on it that prevents the wiper from going to close to the windshield. After bending this arm I read that a lot of owners file off this stop so it does not interfere with the wiper movement. This is an option. It is also possible that you have ice buildup or the springed hinge is siezed through oxidation. Make sure that it moves freely.
