90K service items (and why or why not include wires, cap, rotor) 850 1997

What do you think about the list I am pulling together for the 90K?
spark plugs
air filter
cabin filter
oil and filter
fuel filter
lube hinges and stops
flush brake fluid
coolant
upper and lower radiator hoses (preventative)
clean throttle body
flame trap (I think LPT turbo doesn't have)
change air in tires (just kidding)

I don't think the "book" recommends but am considering:

oil filler cap seal
distributor cap and rotor (may do)
spark plug wires (I'm thinking of saving $ here. Volvospeed says "should last to at least 100K)

BTW, the estimate for all of the above parts, based on fcpgroton-type/Bosch prices is about $180 not including coolant, brake fluid, and oil.

90K service items (and why or why not include wires, cap, rotor) 850 1997

Looks like a good list. I'd include cap and rotor but leave the wires for now. I changed my cap and rotor at 90,000 miles and both the old items showed significant pitting on the contacts. They had been in the car since the 60,000 service according the records. I bought them through Groton or Newandusedvolvoparts.com cheap.

Regards,

Here's what I did... 850 1997

...at 80k miles, when I bought my '96 855T,

Transmission Flush & Fill (12 qts Kendall; $17.99)
Transmission Hose Retainer (6842411-8; $3.47)
Cabin Filter Retainer (9488525-8; $14.47)
Cabin Filter (9171296-8; $18.86)
K&N Air Filter (K&N #33-2670; $56.00*)
Spark Plugs (Volvo-272313; $16.12)
Distributor Cap (Bosch-3501944; $19.52)
Rotor (Bosch-1367783; $10.14)
Ignition Wire Set (Bougicord-9135700; $51.03)
Fuel Filter (Bosch-9142658; $21.87)
Accessory Drive Belt (Conti-9186352; $21.64)
Throttle Body Gasket (9135990-1; $3.05)
Thermostat Kit-87c (271417; $11.29)
Coolant (9434699-6; $14.36)
O-Ring Kit (Heater Hoses, 3545662-3; $6.77)
*Balance Tires
*Replace vacuum lines
*Remove, Clean, & Re-attach turbo ducting

As you can see, I replaced the Cap & Rotor, they were quite worn out. I did the ignition wires, too. I highly reccommend flushing the ATF fluid as well. As a matter of fact, I did mine twice, about 1000 miles apart, just to get the tranny cleaned out real good. Parts were purchased from www.alloemvolvoparts.com FCPGroton is a great place, too.

I would replace the wires, distributor cap and oil cap seal but skip radiator hoses and throttle body.

Why would it be dirty? I checked mine at 120,000 km and it was clean.

I've seen throttle bodies both ways. If you live in a dirty area, or spec inner city your car's going to be sucking down soot and particulates that WILL make it thru the air cleaner. If you live in rural Wisc. you don't have this issue (but I won't trade for the rust).

Anyhow. Just my $0.02

N/A's TB's are dirtier than Turbo's... 850 1997

...because of the flame trap. The crankcase vapors & goo get sucked directly into the TB. In the Turbo's, it gerts sucked in just before the Turbocharger. N/A throttle bodies should be cleaned (along with the flame trap) every 30k miles. The TB in my '96 Turbo still looked clean after ~80k
