ABS CU 850 1993

I have a 93 850 GLT w/121k miles with a bad ABS CU. I bought a replacement unit from a local salvage yard and need to test it. Problem- the unit is bolted to a brcket on the car that is too close to the Master Cylinder and the brake fluid reservoir. 2 of the bolts (torx-20) easily come off, however getting to the bottom-most bolt is a bear and I do not want to strip the head. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Armando Flores

Armando-

I cant' assist on replacement of this unit as I have not done it myself. However, this is an all too common problem with 850's. I woudl suggest that you log a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as this is abrake failure that Volvo themseleves say they're not aware of. Ironically my dealer replaces about 5 a week and mine has gone twice. They're at www.nhtsa.org, you'll need your VIN #. With your help, hopefully the NHTSA will ultimately issue a recall since Volvo won't do it Vol"vo"untarily.
