I usually answer questions, this time I need the help 850 1995

95' 855 won't start. Cold weather right around 0 F/ -18 C. No codes. No flashing arrow. Car cranks and sounds like it has started for about a half a second and then dies. To me it seems like a fuel delivery issue. Anybody have any suggestions, or specific knowledge of this type of problem. I very much appreciate it.

Thank you to all who replied. Well It warmed up to about 28 F today so I tackled the car. I pulled the fuel pump relay and re-seated it. I tightened all of the wires to the coil. Gave the battery a good charge and cranked the car for about a solid two minutes. After some sputtering and stumbling the motor finally caught and now runs and re-starts with no problem. My wife denies a short start and run period, but this sounds suspiciously similar to the "lawnmower syndrome" that has been commented on before. Thanks to all.

My '95 850 had a similar problem at the start of the cold weather season. Died on my wife while she was in traffic. Battery seemed strong, would crank like crazy, but no start. Turned out the coil had to be replaced. 80,000 miles on the car at the time.

    Robert,

It could be fuel pump inside the gas tank. I had my replaced last summer. My symptoms were inability to start the car, it would turn over, but never start, eventually it died completely when I was about 1 mile from my home and 3 miles from my mechanic.

I'd check your fuel filter. If it's that cold out, some ice might have developed in it causing blockage. A new filter is about 20 bucks or so. I'd check that. Also, does your engine have a block heater, that might help? I've got a 94 850, and I encountered a problem with it once stalling when trying to start it and it was very, very cold as well. Have you run an injector cleaner through recently?

I had a similar problem. Would sound like it fired up for a moment, but would then die. After that I could crank the ignition for minutes (that was suggested here in the archives) to no avail. I replaced the fuel pump relay, then confirmed the fuel pump was bad. Good luck.

Your car doesn't have an immolizer so that's not it. Have you checked fuel pressure? If you're lacking FP, it's possibly a sticking fuel pump relay.

I dunno if the 850 1995 came with immobilizer , but my S70 1998 hade the same thing , it seems like the car starts , then realizes that it doesnt recognise the key and turning off the engine..

My problem was solved by changing the battery strange though ... :)

Is the idle rough? , before it dies?

    Spark cables?

    just breathing free here ..
