Brakes/Part Questions 850

Hello,

It's time for me to replace pads/rotors. I noticed when looking at FCP Groton I can get Volvo Rotors for $60 or Zimmerman rotors for $32 (this is for the front). I believe Zimmerman actually makes the Volvo rotors, so is their any reason I should spend $60 dollars for the Volvo rotors? Also most online sites are unclear about the break pads they are selling (however FCP Groton says Volvo OEM pads). Who actually makes the OEM pads? If anyone has suggestions on where to buy online, etc. Let me know. I also noticed my left rear wheel gets really hot, I don't here a noise, however I suspect some brake component (a piston? in the caliper may have seized). I have seen posts about seized pistons and strangely it appears to happen on the left rear of the 850. I suspect at this point I will buy front/rear rotors and pads. (I have a 1995 854T, currently has 92500 miles on it). I purchased the car with 57000 miles on it and have never had any break work done since purchase (hasn't needed any work)

At the same time I am going to replace the PNP switch, since my car doesn't like to shift out of first gear in cold weather, also believe I have no backup lights..shifts fine otherwise, can start out in 3rd and after a few minutes I have no shifting problems. I haven't had the 313 code, however after pushing the card hard in first gear I was able to get it to report a 322, but I think that was more my doing, reset codes and all is well currently. I flush the transmission regularly and have never had any shifting problems, so I doubt the transmission is bad.

-Scott

    Brakes/Part Questions 850

You can ask the guys there at Groton what they recommend but either rotor is fine, just depends on how much you want to spend. For the pads though I'd recommend the PBR Deluxe pads over the factory pads. The PBR pads don't dust and the stop very well and are easy on the rotors. The factory pads dust like crazy (as bad as Pagid pads) and you spend every weekend cleaning your rims. You can replace the rear calipers from Groton too. Did you check that the parking brake wasn't dragging on the left rear? Lift it up and spin the wheel to see if you can hear any dragging noise. Groton also has the best prices on the E-code headlight lens if you want to improve your headlight illumination. Good luck ........ Mike

    Brakes/Part Questions 850

Just got done researching brakes and as far as I know the OEM rotors are Brembo and Pads are Textar and/or Pagid. I was going to get my parts from FCP by referal but went to www.eeuroparts.com instead because I live CA and shipping $50> is free. They were back-ordered on the Brembo rotors so I took the (front only) Zimmerman w/mintex pads for $107 to the door. My first brake job also so I have no experience with these parts. What I have seen and been told post after post is to use lotsa anti-squeel paste and in your case doing to rear also, Volvo (avail. at the dealer) has a remodded rear shim to prevent squeel and shudder. No idea about the rear being hot, but I will pay attn to see who does! Hope it goes well. -Stu. 94 854t
