I am contemplating buying a V70. I have three kids, and need something safe, reliable, and fun. Money is tight, so I am looking at a used model 1998 to 2000. I really need the third seat option, which seems hard to find. My question is: Can the third seat be ordered separately and installed on any car. Or is there some special design of the vehicle to accomodate the third seat?

    I belive the 850 and V70 including the XC can have the third seat. Not only the seats and extra cushion (if you kids are very small), but the most important is the volvo 3 point seatbelts. They need to have the 3 point seatbelts in order to be safe. Good Luck, Linden

    Where abouts are you located? I am in Idaho and I have a 1998 V70 AWD that I am selling. I love the car and it has been great. It is a great family car but still fun to drive. I wish I could keep it but I need the money. I have kept it in great condition. It is dark green and has nice rims and tires/tinted back windows and leather, etc. No third seat though. I have looked around and priced this car in a number of different areas. I am asking 17,000 for it. The car has 58k mileage on it which I think you will find is fairly low for VOLVO drivers.

      I purchased a volvoworld.com third seat and had a good experience. There may be additional parts you may have to purchase separately, depending on your year.

      These include a replacement floor panel, which was no more than $10 at a volvo dealer, several screws, and possibly a rear door handle so that the third seat occupants can get out on their own. This latter part is not required on all years because it is in some models already.

        I have an 98 XC70. How difficult to add the 3rd row seats your self? You mentioned that there are additonal hardwares needed; so the 3rd kit don't come complete? Any photos to your assembly process? Thanks
