oil Cooler 850 1996

I notice on volvospeed they show how to drain the oil cooler. Is this necessary? Can it be drained while there is oil in the oil pan? Is it all part of the oil system anyways. I have justed changed the oil and filter with Mobil 1 and don't really want to replace it for a couple of thousand miles.

The oil cooler holds so little oil I wouldn't bother draining it during a routine oil change. If however you do an engine flush using one of several products I would drain it before adding clean oil.

I did an engine flush last March and the fumes coming from the drained oil/flush were extremely toxic. I wanted all this stuff out of the engine.
