ok, here's my small problem. I'm getting code 222 which is bad solenoid s2. I have tried searching the web, the dealer, and local volvo parts dealers with no results except: "that's practically impossible to find". Anyone out there have a source in which I can acquire these solenoids? Help, I reall don't want to have to put in a new tranny as the dealer suggests. I've already done the tranny power flush, but the problem still persists. In other words, my 93 850 is in "limp mode".

Any dealers parts department can order you one, fact. If someone tells you otherwise, they're wrong. Any good Volvo parts guy can get you one, even if it means calling their parts or tech support #s. I know as I've replaced them before and I'll have no probs getting one.
Try asking a Volvo parts guy with Volvo parts experience, not "the new guy" who'ld rather say "nope, can't get that" because he doesn't know how to properly look it up, maybe even in Vadis which they also have access too. There's no reason why they can't order you one.

Try e-mailing Nick bauer at FCPgroton.com. I have used them before and he will e-mail you back if he stocks the part. he surprised me in the past with how many OE Volvo parts he had.

I would call or email Volvo NA. We had a situation where the tranny kept going limp. The tech overrulled my diagnosis of pnp and did a rear seal job contending it was the oil all over everything causing the problem. I thought he was nuts at first and for sure when the thing went limp again after the repair--but its now been a cpl weeks since and hasnt done it again. We are hoping things got cleaned up-his diagnosis correct. Still keeping fingers crossed--hoping we dont need to find the selenoids also!
