Wheel bearing noise vs. rear end noise? V70-XC70

How can one discern the difference between noise from worn wheel bearings to noise from the rear end tranaxle? I have this humming noise that I notice when I'm driving over 25 miles per hour. The noise does not seem to change when I gas the car or when I backoff the accelerator. The noise does lessen with a decrease in the speed of the car, but is not affected with the application of brakes. Any help or opinions is greatly appreciated. My car is a 1998 V70 Turbo (T5) wagon.

Usually a whl. brg. going bad will make a "cyclic" noise, like rrh, rrh, rrh VS. a steady rrh'g noise. (boy, it's tough to try and add audio by typing !!) They will both increase and decrease with ground speed. Just from my experience, Tom
