Headlamp removal >>>>>>>> S80 1999

I need to replace one of the headlamps off of a 1999 S80, the dealer says that if they were to do it, they would need to remove the front bumper to replace the headlamp. Is this correct ?? I have not looked into it, but wanted to check here first. Thanks for any info. God Bless.

Had the same thing happen to me on my S80 a couple months ago. $344 for the headlamp assy. I took it home and tried to unfasten the bumper, etc., gave up after 2.5 hours, let the dealer do it for another $180 (labor). I agree that it's really stupid that these #$(&$^@ thinga are sooooo hard to replace.

I ended up getting the Eurosport headlamp covers (clear urethane) for $60. I'll see if they help at all. I do about 2500 miles a month on the highway for work, a lot of potential for rock damage.

Yes. It does not have to be completely removed, but it does have to be unfastened and 1 side pulled away to access 2 of the mounting screws for the headlight.

Yep, and that adds to the labor charge. It's pretty rediculoius IMHO that Volvos engineers seemingly overlooked an easier way to remove those headlamps. Stone damage is always the #1 reason why now, Euro style headlamp assemblies need replacing.
