Since my 2000 S40 is nearing 50,000 miles on the odometer, I am thinking about getting an extended warranty. My dealer on Long Island mentioned that extended warranties are available and will cost $1550 for coverage up to 75,000 or $2500 for up to 100,000.
Does anyone have any thoughts about warranties in general and these Volvo prices in particular.

I got the extended warranty on my V70 AWD since it was turbo and AWD. I have had the Tracs/ABS controller card, the entire transmission and torque converter, and the driver's side hub assembly all replaced at around 80,000 miles under warranty. They just replaced my fuel pump as well. Total cost of repairs would have been around $4000.00 for all of these, but my cost was $50.00 per occurrence. The warranty was around $2000.00 at time of purchase, but I negotiated it into the price of the car at time of purchase.

I am a great believer that it is easier to budget for insurance (in the form of the warranty) than to budget for unexpected repairs.
