TEXAS Emissions test passed with OBD-2 scanner 850

hello

I had my 97 850 glt turbo inspected on monday and i passed the test, but this is what i did to get through it.

1. check engine light was on, code was for a gross leak in the fuel evap system. light has been on for a while now and i can not find the vacume leak.
2. used my OBD-2 scanner to reset the light on Sunday before the test.
3. went to emissions test station monday and they did the OBDII test and system showed that 4 or 5 systems were "NOT READY" including the evap system that triggers the check engine light.
4. guy at test station told me "Volvos have a weird computer system, and sometimes they see the Not Ready status" but he said this is common on volvo's and the car passed the test.
5. was issued new sticker, paid, and went on my way.
6. Check Engine light came back on Tuesday after the driving cycles were complete.

The scanner allowed me to pass the test. I also did the same thing with my wifes ford it also passed the test.

this is technically cheating but as long as I get the Emissions test passed i do not mind cheating the Gov't, hell they cheat us everyday so a little pay back once in a while is good.

Dan

I tried that with the DEQ (Oregons Emmisions Hell) and they did not buy it. I don't have any legit problems with my car. Reset the codes and they haven't come back, BTW my MIL was not on when I failed DEQ just stail codes pre-purchase I assume. Problem now is I have logged about 1000 miles trying to get the ready codes to reset, even with the TSB to walk me along. currently my tags are expired and DMV won't issue me another TEMP tag.

I use the OBD 2 scan tool from Harrison R&D jhook it up to my Sony CLIE and WOW no stupid lights to watch for codes. I paid for the universal still a steal @ $170

mine is from www.obd-2.com adn was 142.00 works excellent. I have previous posts about the oregon emissions test (probably your posts) so this is why i posted my situation to see if it would help others.

good luck with passing the test. i heard that getting all of the systems to be in the ready mode is a real problem with driving cycles. have you tried to get it inspected at a Volvo dealer? they should be able to get it ready and pass it.

Dan

www.OBD-2.com

they have different types but all connect to a laptop or PC and then connected to the car obdll port. and there is software that you install on the computer.

since i do not have a laptop anymore, i had to carry my pc and monitor outside and plug them into the christmas lights, but hey well worth it.

i have the ISO/FORD set up and it cost $142.00 it will also reset the service engine light which is cool.

The cable between obd-2 connector and serial port is cat-5 and you can buy 100ft or more and maybe it's enough to leave you computer at home.

You guys dont need to buy the tool to reset the computer.

on a my 97 model there is no diagnostic box under the hood or on a 96 they are only on earlier models, so yes i do need this tool to reset the lights!
