common front end suspension problem? 850

hello list,

i am looking for some pointers on a front end noise that my 97 850 glt turbo has developed. on the front pass side the car makes a squeeking or metal to metal sound when i hit a bump in the road with the right front tire.

1 question is when i push down on the front fender, the strut seams to float up when the fender goes down when i push down on the driver side the strut does not float up as much as the one on the pass side. Could i need a strut mount?

what else should i look at.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Here the Part Numbers and Cost 850

    Dan,

Just bought the parts myself from Volvo of Houston

Volvo Part Number # 8646713-1 Spring Seat $27.33 each (you'll need two to do both sides).

I will be replacing my struts and spring seats over Xmas holidays.

(btw- we've emailed on the custom exhaust setup you have)

    Nate

      Nathan,

any luck with the custom exhaust situation? I will be in town on the 23-26 if you want to meet somewhere and see/hear my exhaust set up, let me know.

thanks for the info on the spring seats, do you also have noise in the front end?

      Dan

        Dan,

No noise yet- but the seats are both shot.

My Indy Volvo guy said the spring seats are a common problem.

When the right one went about 3 years ago I had a clunk noise and the center rod of the strut wanted to poke a hole thru my hood.

Isn't that bad this time- but handling has gotten sloppy. Since I have to get the struts out to replace the seat I am going to replace the oem struts with Koni Sport Adjustables.

Undecided on Bilstein HD's or Koni Sports for the rear- but that can wait a bit.

Postponing the exhaust till I get the suspension squared away.

        Nate

    Hi
A classic case of suspension tops needing replacing. The strut will have to be removed to replace these. You will also have to dis-assemble the spring/shock to replace the tops.
