1998 V70 AWD - Trac/ABS light, about to pull and check... V70-XC70 1998

Hey,

I'm about to pull the Trac/ABC ECU on my 1998 Volvo V70 AWD.
The light comes intermittently on as described in many other posts .

I read that the 1998 problem is most likely caused by the
connection to the Right-Rear wheel sensor not being good.

Does anyone have instructions on how to check this? Mainly,
which connector/harness should I be looking at and tracing
back for breaks in the solder or ???

If I have success I'll put my pics and instructions in a word
document and post it, any help along the way would be greatly
appreciated.

I know some will recommend buying a replacement, but I'm going to
try fixing it first...

-Ron

    1998 V70 AWD - Trac/ABS light, about to pull and check... V70-XC70 1998

    Hi Ron,

I too have a 98 AWD. I too, decided to fix myself, but re-considered when I found the fault. Most of the 98 cars have the same problem. Poor PCB material on the controller card. Mine had cracks running completely through the card, so it would be difficult to patch all the broken runs.

The new controller has a PCB with completely different material, and probably will not crack.

An indie in Arizona told me the problem was not the wheel sensor, after running a brief check. No charge for that one.

One more note: after going through all of this, my extended warranty paid for the diagnosis and replacement, at 80,000 miles.

    Regards,

    Mike Harris in Sandy Eggo

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll take it apart tonight and see what condition
the board is in before starting to solder...
