Leaking Radiator 850

Every year at this time (cold weather) The radiator leaves me a little present on the driveway each morning. Today, this "dripping" has turned into a small puddle. I was told there is an O-ring that eventually goes bad and radiator replacement is necessary. Anyone heard this? Anyone change out their radiator in an 850?

thanks

It's not unusual when the car gets older, high mileage. The radiator comes out from the bottom (fan removed) and if turbo, the intercooler comes out with it. The AC condensor is unbolted from it and supported, not disconnected.

Thanks Frank. So I take it the intercooler is removed from the old radiator and placed on the new one?

I assumed that you have a turbo 850, then the intercooler and radiator are "bolted" together as 1 piece. You need to remove "this" piece to replace the radiator. Non-turbo version has only radiator not intercooler. Intercooler doesn't add any complexity when replacing the radiator.

Make sure to use new tranny connectors (clips) and o-rings (2 for each tranny hose) when doing the radiator replacement.

Thankd for your help Ho. Did the radiator this weekend. Really cut up my hands though!! New clips were needed. Lost one intercooler bolt on the top, but three should work ok. thanks again and Happy Holidays

You can get the bolt from the dealer, shouldn't be that expansive. I replaced all the rusted bolts around the radiator and fan shroud. 4 bolts and clips for radiator and 2 big bolts for holding the radiator to the frame and 4 screws for the cooling fans. All these bolts/screws/clips costed me about $23.00.

I also cut my left pinky with the old radiator fins when trying to remove the lower tranny hose union nut. I removed the union nut for the lower tranny hose replacement. The original one was so rusted. The hose itself cost about $80.
