Blinking lights on heater control panel 850

Sorry if this has been asked in the past, but the a/c and recirculate lights blink once in awhile when starting the 850 wagon. When this happens, the heater motor will not run. I spoke with the Volvo dealer and he leads me to believe it is the resistor pack connecting to the heater motor. My intuition tells me it is the heater motor that needs replacement. A shutdown and restart of the car eliminates the problem. One more thing, this problem occurs most often, (but not always) in hot weather.

Has anyone ever encountered a bad resistor pack in an 850? And where is the resistor pack located?

I would suggest that it's the blower. I had similar problem with a '94 850 where the blower would cut out under certain conditions and cycling the ignition would renable it. You can get one for ~$160 w/ the fan wheel. Takes 1-2 hours to replace depending on skill level.

Search on: "pack blower" in the search field (below to the
right) to see other posts with this problem.

Replacing the fan assembly after failure is also common. A
pretty easy do it yourself job if so inclined.
