There is a pretty decent indie place in West Quincy, walking distance from quincy center, and I have been there a couple times. Both times they were fast and the work was good. It is West Quincy Motors 617-773-1424. They specialize in foreign cars like Volvo.

I would try WCS automotive. They are the independent shop in Rockland that Ching-Ho mentioned.

You can pretty much be guaranteed they are cheaper than any dealer, and I have a few family members who have had work done there. I haven't personally, do most everything myself. Something like you describe I would take to them, though.

Rockland is just a few exits down Route 3 (closer than Dedham or Attleboro, as others have suggested)

Dalzell's is a reputable Volvo shop, but you can go cheaper and receive the same amount of quality. I go to a place John John's Automotive down in Attleboro, MA. The chief mechanic used to work for a Volvo dealer and is very experienced with Volvo's, even new ones. Here is some more info on him: http://www.smith-designs.net/johnjohn

My Sister lives in Norfolk, MA. and has gone to a dealer named Dalzall's. They are located in Dedham on Route 1. They just opened up a new service center and are excellent!

I go to Dalzell Volvo in Dedham, not far away from Quincy. You can also go the the Volvo independent garage in Rockland.

Try to avoid Boston Volvo in Brighton. Their part department is very good but not service department.
