air pump/check valve 850 1997

I recently failed DEQ weth a PO410, no check engine light at the dash but the OBD II scan indicated the code. I found the check valve was replaced aproximately two years ago and I am curious what the procedure to diagnose if the cause is the pump or the valve ? I thing i have seen posts indicating the new valves have been very reliable. I am having some noise in the airpump but I don't know if this would throw a PO410 ? I am very confused. Has anyone had luck using a used airpump?

Thanks,

If the pump is noisy, although that in itself won't cause a code unless it freezes (frozen water) or siezes from bad bearings, it's life is questionable. If there's water in it, the check valve is NG and must also be replaced. The cause of water getting to the pump is a defective check valve.

If the air pump is making noise, you need a new one. The when it throws a code, usually it's caused by water in the pump. I've sucassfully removed many a pump, dumped out the water and drilled a few small holes to allow the water to drain, reinstalled anh cleared the code and they've never had air pump troubles again. My mom went through a few, until I did that, she hasn't had a problem with it in years! Most pumps fail due to condensation form taking short trips from a cold start.

    Is that DEQ in Oregon?

Have you tried resetiing the code?

If the light was off and still a code, I believe it's prior to the repair you are refering to two years ago. Anyone else please correct me if I'm Wrong.

Only down side to resetting the code. You have the same task I do, trying to get the !@#$$$$ ready codes to reset. A problem you will have regardless, just to pass a STUPID requirement.

This indeed is in Oregon. All the codes are READY with the acception of the PO410, I do have access to a SnapOn OBD II scanner but I am not sure if this is a code that can be reset or is a diagnostic of current condition. If anyone has knowledge to this madness I would surely apreciate any help. I really don't want to pay $500.00 plus for this process. I did stop by the shop that did my prepurchase inspection but they seemed not to interested in helping or guiding a DIY guy. I have not had any check engine codes so a reset if possible would make my life easy.
      Thanks,
      Duk

JUST DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THAT WILL CLEAR THE CODES.

I HAD MY WIFES CAR INSPECTED A COPUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON SO I JUST UN HOOKED THE BATTERY FOR A WHILE AND THEN RECONNECTED IT AND DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE INSPECTION STATION AND PASSED THE TEST, THE VERY NEXT DAY TEH LIGHT CAME BACK ON! BUT I NOW HAVE A VALID EMISSIONS STICKER SO I WILL WAIT UNTILL NEXT YEAR AND TRY IT AGAIN, HOPEFULLY IT PASS AGAIN. BTW THE CODE IS FOR THE CATALYST AND WILL COME ON AND GO OFF ABOUT EVERY WEEK. I HAVE REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR BUT KEEP GETTING THE SAME CODE. THE OLD CAT WAS DEFINITLY BAD AND MOSTLY CLOGGED, SO I AM THINKING THAT I NOW HAVE A BAD O2 SENSOR.
