oops 95 shifter back and forth 850 1995

It's a 95 850 Turbo not a 85. Anyway, same question.

I was having the same trouble that Bob posted... "My 95 850 has started shifting crazily by itself. Up and down, whenever it feels like it."

It's also sluggish when starting to move in the morning. Worse in cold weather. It won't go over 10 miles an hour. Then after
about 10 minutes (or moving the shifter to 3 while driving) it just starts to go.

So I took Erwin's (and Bay 13's) advice and went out and tried the "shifter back and forth" idea on my car. Now it won't start.

Is it the PNP switch? Trans? Other?

Please HELP!

Uh oh. Have you tried starting in neutral? If it won't, your PNP switch may be gone. I'm at work and don't have my Haynes here, (my boss is generous but probably not that generous) but I don't recall reading about any other shifter position switch in the console that might cause this.

If your's isn't a turbo you might stand a better chance of seeing the switch and shift linkage on top of the transmission. Get someone to move the shifter through P to L and back while you look at the linkage. Something may have come loose. Also, you might be able to get a drift or long screwdriver down to the switch and rap on it a couple of times with it in P or N and get it started.

I hope you get it started,
