You can order an OEM filter online from any of the suppliers who advertise here. I've used K&N on my motorcycles but there's an interesting thread on the 240 forum about a K&N passing lots of soot on an rich-running engine with a rotted exhaust system. Exhaust (and soot) was being routed through the heated air pipe and pulled into the engine. Went through the K&N. He had to remove the intake manifold and clean everything out.

If you do decide K&N, they're available online for $35 instead of the $55 or so at Autozone or other suppliers.

I'm sold on K&N. Cleaning them is easy. USe it on my 1990 Porsche too with good results -- engine breaths real nice.

An AMSOIL oiled foam filter will pass more air, take out more dirt, and is serviceable so it should last a while. Had to replace the one on my 240T after 13 years.

This is one of the few after market things I will use such as a Fram etc. I have never notice any differance with OEM air filters. I am just interested in filtering dirt/dust particles.

I would say K&N are Ok, but I will not use them on the street....there is NO free lunch.....less restriction = more air = better performance, but this also introduce more and larger particulate into the engine.
