855 Timing Belt Tensioner 850 1996

I have a 96 855 with 130,000 running on it's second timing belt. Soon I will be replacing the belt again. My question is this-is it advisable to replace the tensioner this time around? If anyone can advise, it wouldb greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,
LarryU

When you start compresing the tensioner in your vise, it should take about 8 to 10 minutes to get it fully compressed so you can put a nail through the hole to hold it to the housing. Go SLOWLY doing this -- the fluid is very viscous. If it compresses real easy, time for a new tensioner. I just did mine at 160,000 miles and the tensioner seemd OK. I like the previous response though -- for $100.00, it cheap insurance. While you are there, might as well replace the water pump -- they are cheap and its a REAL good idea.

I had the same question - would you post a message when you do the job if the tensioner was in good condition or not after 140K miles. Mine has around 120K now.
    Thanks

At 130K miles and second T-Belt change it would be small $'s insurance- raplace the tensioner ! I would.

The tensioner is around $100 - pretty insignificant compared to a blown head,eh ?
