Well somehow...(not me!) the battery ran down overnight. the radio of course went
into the reset mode and my wife put in the wrong code (three times) which shut it
down to the "off" mode. I folowed the instructions.. key in I postion and stereo
on for 2 hours. Still shows the "off" mode and wont allow a code input.

Any suggestions?

give your dealer service dept a call.....just have your VIN number on hand. They should be able to walk you through it.

I took your advice and called the dealer.. it would seem the book is off by 30 minutes.. it takes 2.5 hours approx.. well more than the 2 the manual advises at least.
So did the excercise again last night and all is good (till next time ;-) )..
It just never occurs to me to call a dealer as over the years the info from them has always been spotty at best. Barrier Volvo in Seattle seems to put more stock in customer service than I am used to. A nice suprise.
